Forum Etiquette

This website has become quite popular and is the first choice for users seeking help in choosing a Wiki. Especially the forums are a vivid place to ask questions about particular Wiki engines or acquiring special advice. To keep this place as useful as it is currently and to counteract certain trends we seem to see here, we'd like to introduce a few rules, we ask everyone to adhere to.

In General...

...be nice
Don't use words that might offend someone, like four letter words. When criticizing something do it based on facts and personal experience without personal attacks

...take your time
Don't rush when posting an article. You want others to take time with answering your question, so take your time when asking as well. Use the preview, reread what you have written and check if you gave all the facts needed. Spell checking is a good idea as well ;-)

...be patient
You might not get an answer immediately, please refrain from pressing your topic by adding senseless replies like "anybody?". Instead do follow up replies, extending your initial question by giving more information about the results of your own research

Wiki Developers...

...show your identity
Wiki developers tend to be pretty proud of their own engines, which makes them biased. There is nothing wrong about it. But please make readers aware of your affiliation to a certain product. Just put a short info in your signature in your forum profile.

...don't advertise senseless
If someone asks for general advice about Wikis with a certain feature, you're welcome to point out your product if it matches the user‘s needs. But if a user asks for specific info about product X, don't answer with info about your product Y. Also please don't just answer each and every post just to promote your Wiki. If you want to make people aware of it consider buying advertising space instead.

These are pretty soft and simple rules and everybody should be able to agree to them. If we think a post violates them nontheless we keep the right to modify or delete the post.

Careful: I'm the lead developer of WikiMatrix and DokuWiki so my posts may be biased ;-)
