Have sucessfully installed

Wanted a powerfull Knowledge-Management Tool on my PC.
Tried a lot of programs,
like Evernote, Memomaster, PersonalBrain, Cuecards, lexican, MS Onenote and so on
In the end of the day, everything bullshit.

Then i came to the idea to use a wiki for gathering information.

Tried to install different wikis, but for a computer-dummie like me (know to use word, excel und press play on mediaplayer, thats it), it was to difficult to install.
In dokuwiki i got in the install.php file just some absurd signs i cannot understand, for example.
And i dont know, and frankly dont want to know, what is Apache-Server, PHP, Perl, CMS, python, Jotty and Potty Style sheets und mysql-super links ??  and some other different abstruse words.
Tried MoinMoin Desktop Edition, got installed, but had problems with Orientation in the wiki, because it has no sidebar. And templats, what a they for? which has what function?
Have no time for making a study in 4 years, before starting a simple program.

Mindtouch, dekiwiki is a big program, no chance for installing on my 3 year old standard Notebook. And it much to complex for me.
Alfresco, dont know how to start vmplayer, what is this for?, Not useful, bullshit.
Pmwiki, not able to install.

Hey guys, why everthing has to be so komplex?

Make things easy, and just do it.

I want a system, which works. I can use to gather information, without beeing a Computer-Crack-Expert-Junkie.

But with xwiki, is different.

One-Click Installation
Register to login and it works.
Make hyperlinks is simple, (thats the key-advantage of wiki)
wyswyg is on board
Sidebar for orientation, no problem
No costs, its free (Samepage wants 100$ per month and user (are they crazy and gone nuts??))

It works, thank you for this simple working program.

Re: Have sucessfully installed

Sokol,

We are glad you have been able to find a Wiki that suits your needs.

We would also like to draw your attention to the fact that we have tons of paying customers that have found investments of $100/month (and much more) to be a great investment for our feature set and our support levels. The preponderance of our customer base have realized substantial productivity gains by using SamePage -- thereby accruing ROI gains that more than justify what they pay for the service.

Best regards,

SamePage Team

Re: Have sucessfully installed

But with xwiki, is different.

xwiki is a good choice for a personal wiki on Windows XP. Easy to install and easy to use. I don't know where you failed with DekiWiki or MoinMoin, both are just as easy to install and use and both will run on a 3 year old machine.

And templats, what a they for?

Templates are pre-designed layouts you can use to quickly build pages in your wiki, something you'll want to know more about as you go along.

Hey guys, why everthing has to be so komplex?

You'll find XWiki is just as complex, if not more so then most wikis, when and if you ever decide to publish your wiki on the internet, which is what 99% of the people do with their wiki. You'll also find out it may not be as free or as easy as you thought when something goes wrong and you need to hire someone to fix it.

No costs, its free (Samepage wants 100$ per month and user (are they crazy and gone nuts??))

Yeh, why buy a $200,000 John Deere when you can plow your land with a $200 horse? You're comparing apples with oranges. Samepage is a turn-key hosted solution designed for groups. It has a rich set of features that goes far beyond what you or anyone else probably needs in a personal wiki on their desktop. Paying their monthly fee means your wiki is always up and running because when something goes wrong the guys that designed it fix it, which is important when you are using it for a group collaboration tool on the net (something you are not looking for).

Good site for research

No offense but I find that site a bit suspect because they've given a program called blogtronix a number 1 rating under "Wiki-Engines". When I go to http://www.blogtronix.com/ I see the word WIKI all over the place but I couldn't find any demo of their wiki or find a page where you can see their wiki in action. The demo link goes to a video and the front page is consumed by a YouTube video that seems to have nothing to do with blogtronix. No mention of what it costs, if anything to use their program and I couldn't find any links to sites using blogtronix. In addition, this Bugarian company lists a San Francisco address first on their contact page, that address appears to be occupied by a company called "VT Brokers". Not sure if this is a mail drop or a corporate mail handling service or their actual office but I'm getting awfully leery of Eastern European companies using mail drops in the U.S. and not identifying them as such. The California Secretary of State shows them at an address in Oakland: http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/corpdata/ShowL … 0522810175

Re: Have sucessfully installed

Thx for the comments!

Sorry, did not want to offend sb.

For somepurpose maybe samepage is ok and his price worth, i dont know.

For my need, a personal knowledge-management tool, best run from a usb-stick,
easy to use and with sidebars for good orientation, powerful search-engine.
Well have not found the optimum solution.

There 100plus wikis outhere, 100plus different similar programs, on every homepage u get 100plus new freak-words to learn, well far to heavy for a average-windows-double-click-an-icon-user.

There a are for sure a lot of very intelligent and good people working in the 100plus projects outhere, maybe it would be a good thing to gather the good minds together to a handful projects, not only with the aim of adding 1000plus feature but to make an easy-to-use and easy-to-explain program.

The problem about the most software is not creating content, but the lack of a tool for finding and managing content.
Perfect wre a graphical-mind-mapping-style tool for managing the content of a wiki, which changes links and conections automatically and is easy-use.
Than sb. would first start create content, than structure it., than distribute it on the net or leaveit on the stick for further improvement.
