Most wikis support uploading files (List). Unfortunately the question is often asked with the wrong mindset. People assume, because their current way of working is organized by mailing around Word files, they need a wiki which eases the working with Word files.
That is a really bad approach as it will not solve your knowledge management problems. It just transfers your problems to a different medium.
The advantage of a wiki, is to have a centralized location where all your company knowledge is stored and can be directly edited. Only with content being directly editable, people can start making updates right away, without having multiple versions of documents flying around.
The most successful approach to introducing a wiki is to identify the content you really need from your currently used files and move it to the wiki. This does not mean uploading the Word document, but transferring the content itself to real wiki pages.
