Wiki Choice Wizard

The best invention since sliced bread was just added to WikiMatrix - the Wiki Choice Wizard smile

The wizard (prominently linked from the start page) helps you to reduce the large list of available Wikis to just a few, matching your special criteria. It does so by pure magic and asking you some questions about your preferences.

Re: Wiki Choice Wizard

Hi andi,
the wizard is a terrific addition for new users, kudos!
I'd like to ask a few questions about this: out of curiosity, what criteria did you adopt to decide which features should go into the wizard? For instance, why choose history instead of revisions (with latest version only/between any version)? Is there evidence that these are the most popular features? Why not add, for example, the operating system - which I think is a very relevant information for installable wikis?
Adding all the feature list to the wizard would just make it useless, but it would be nice to give users more flexibility on the choice of features used to compare different engines.
This is just to bounce a previous proposal I had made a couple of months ago wink - and to ask your opinion about this. Keep up the good work!

I wanted a really basic feature to let the user easily decide between very simple Wikis and the more sophisticated ones. I think the page history is the one feature to do that.

No the set of features was selected based on my personal experience in what people are looking for when chosing a wiki.

I wanted features which distinguish Wikis from each other. Nearly all Wikis in the Matrix (with a very few exceptions) are written in some interpreted and OS independent language so asking for OS preference in the Wizard wouldn't make a big difference.

Adding all the feature list to the wizard would just make it useless, but it would be nice to give users more flexibility on the choice of features used to compare different engines.

This feature request is haunting me for weeks wink We will add a full search by feature thingy. However making this powerful but simple to use isn't too easy and I'm busy with our main projects as well so it can take some time - just have patience wink

Andi

PS: thanks for the feedback - I already started to think nobody cares for the wizard I am so proud of wink

Re: Wiki Choice Wizard

Q: is it so that the CWiz does not select a wiki in step 4, when one chooses Files/Database, if the wiki has Plugin for both ?

The choice wizard uses the value of the Data Storage field in the general group.
