totally changeable wiki design?

Hello

I've read already some topics psoted on the forum but I think it's easier to post what I search for in a wiki..

I'm a multimedia student creating a concept for one of the school programs. sort of a class-wiki
Most wiki's seem to have a standard layout/design.
Is there a wiki that is totally customable? Where I can change the whole look and feel of the wiki? It would also be handy to have seperate user accounts so we can see who last changed the pages.. and I'd rather not have it hosted.. or if you can persuade me?

Can anyone make some suggestions? I'd really appreciate it!

(oh and my inspiration came from this wiki : http://art.yale.edu/ can someone tell me how it is build? or give me some helpful information?)

thanks!! smile

Re: totally changeable wiki design?

mdeer,

EditMe allows for 100% design customization. You can do so yourself using our template system and API, or you can give us a design and we can implement it for you (though we do charge an hourly rate for this service). Check out http://wiki.editme.com/development for information on our template system and API.

The site you linked to looks like a custom-developed Ruby on Rails application.

Cheers,
Matt

Re: totally changeable wiki design?

mdeer,

I'd for sure stay away from mediawiki as it requires a lot of work to customize.  Deki Wiki has a clean interface and includes a control panel CSS override for easy customization of the skin.  There are also Base skins to add your own skin.  You can download Deki Wiki from here: http://wiki.mindtouch.com/Deki_Wiki
