Help choosing a wiki

Hi,

I've been looking at WikiMatrix and I've chosen a wiki to use, but I can't find a wiki (or other collaborative software) that has all the features I want, so I thought I'd post here in case I missed something.

Need:
[*]The ability to assign/change an ACL on a collection of pages - Like in MoinMoin, where assigning an ACL to a page P assigns the ACL to P/*.  Can be done by a plugin if necessary.
[*]Access groups from AD - Need to be able to assign access from groups listed in AD.
[*]Authentication to AD - Via LDAP or kerberos is fine.  Can be done by a plugin.
[*]Being able to make a mailing list from a page with email addresses - We are doing this via a script right now.

Really want:
[*]Local access groups (in addition to groups from AD)
[*]Authentication via CAS
[*]Ability to index PDFs and other media
[*]Ability to migrate from MediaWiki
[*]Conflict resolution

Want:
[*]Authentication via OAuth, and a way for the user to select their authentication mechanism
[*]Fault-tolerance - We have multiple machines we can host on, so it'd be nice if we can use them to create fault-tolerance if one machine fails.
[*]Media versioning
[*]Automatic conflict resolution, a la cvs
[*]Section editing

I think I'll go with FOSWiki, and I can make a CAS authentication plugin, but it'd be nice to have some fault-tolerance.

Thanks,
Jayen

Re: Help choosing a wiki

Hi!

Most of the wiki engines are FOSS so you can develop/contribute or sponsor the development of missing features.

Here are some answers for Tiki:

[*]The ability to assign/change an ACL on a collection of pages
You put all the pages in a category and you assign/change the ACLs of the category
http://doc.tiki.org/Permissions#Category_Permissions

[*]Access groups from AD and [*]Authentication to AD
Yes and yes
http://doc.tiki.org/LDAP+authentication

[*]Being able to make a mailing list from a page with email addresses - We are doing this via a script right now.
I am assuming you mean a newsletter more than a mailing list?
http://doc.tiki.org/Newsletters

Really want:
[*]Local access groups (in addition to groups from AD)
I haven't tried but I am 99% sure this will work.

[*]Authentication via CAS
Yes: http://doc.tiki.org/CAS+Authentication

[*]Ability to index PDFs and other media
Yes: http://doc.tiki.org/Search+within+files

[*]Ability to migrate from MediaWiki
Yes: http://doc.tiki.org/MediaWiki+Importer

[*]Conflict resolution
We have conflict detection but if the user overrides, you end up with 2 revisions and the need for a manual merge. Having proper resolution/merging has been discussed and is desired but never made it to the top of the list. This is something you could sponsor :-)

In reality, with the warning, it's pretty rare that such a problem happens (it could happen if you http://doc.tiki.org/Mail-in wiki edits though. Where I'd like to go, is that when two or more try to edit, we should give then a chat room (http://doc.tiki.org/Minichat) and put them in realtime edit:
http://dev.tiki.org/Realtime+Collaborative+Wiki

Want:
[*]Authentication via OAuth, and a way for the user to select their authentication mechanism
On wish list: http://dev.tiki.org/Oauth

[*]Fault-tolerance - We have multiple machines we can host on, so it'd be nice if we can use them to create fault-tolerance if one machine fails.
http://doc.tiki.org/MySQL+replication

[*]Media versioning
Yes, http://doc.tiki.org/File+Gallery

[*]Automatic conflict resolution, a la cvs
As mentioned above, you can help make this happen :-)

[*]Section editing
Yes: http://doc.tiki.org/Edit+by+Section

From the type of organization, I'll venture a few features you might be interested in:
* http://doc.tiki.org/Spreadsheet
* http://doc.tiki.org/Draw
* http://doc.tiki.org/Slideshow
* http://doc.tiki.org/Docs (view/edit ODF files via the browser)

And the most powerful feature:
* http://doc.tiki.org/Trackers

Please also see:
* http://suite.tiki.org/
* http://tiki.org/Model
* http://tiki.org/Enterprise
* http://tiki.org/FOSS+Web+Application+wi … n+features

All this with scheduled releases (2 major releases per year with Long Term Support versions, like Ubuntu)

Best regards,

M ;-)

Marc, I wish I had seen your post sooner.  WikiMatrix didn't notify me of your reply and I've already deployed another wiki.  sad

Re: Help choosing a wiki

You can also list a second person referred to as a co-agent to act in your place with your agent, either together or independently. If you want to be prepared for the possibility that the agent and co-agent you listed may be unwilling or unable to act for you, you canLawyeralso name another person referred to as a successor agent to take there place if necessary. A successor agent will have the same authority that you granted to your agent, but cannot act until the agent resigns, dies, becomes incapacitated, unqualified, or have declined.
