Markup Quick Comparison

We just added a new feature to the menu, called Markup Compare. It allows you to view the syntax of all listed wikis for a choosen type of markup. This tool was created to help with the development of the CREOLE minimum syntax standard.

CREOLE is a minimum set of predefined syntax that Wikis should support to make it easy for users to start editing without knowing too much about the wiki used. To make it easy to implement, the community behind it tries to find a syntax which creates as few as possible collisions with existing markup, so they do need a tool check existing markup - that tool is now available at wikimatrix :-)

A first set of CREOLE markup was defined just a week ago in a Workshop at the WikiSym 2006.

For record maintainers: I added two new fields to the matrix: "Horizontal Rule" under the syntax examples and "CREOLE support" in the syntax features section.
