Experiences with DokuWiki, FlexWiki, TWiki, MediaWiki and/or JSPWiki

Hello together,

I'm working on my final project as an apprentice to an it specialist in a market research company and need some detailed informations about some wikis.

The situation: We create online surveys and support our whole system (software and servers). We intend to set up a wiki for our colleagues in many parts of europe to simplify software and technical support. Now I'm comparing some wikis to check which is the best for our requirements. (Choices are: DokuWiki, FlexWiki, MediaWiki, TWiki and JSPWiki)

I found the most of the needed information here at wikimatrix and some other websites, but some statements about wikis are still missing.

So what to say about scalabiltiy and/or performance and in which contexts?
And where can I get some experiences about administrating?

I am still searching for serious information on the internet ...but have you ever tried to find some? sad

I am grateful for any help!

Many thanks!
Marco

(Hope my english isn't as bad as I suspect smile )

I can't attest to scalability of the other wikis, but I'd definitely recommend adding MindTouch Deki to the list of wikis to evaluate.  I'm sure you'll find that it will fulfill your needs for this project.  Also from a scalability standpoint, we have a lot of large deployments including the Mozilla Developer Community which receives over 1 million hits a day: https://developer.mozilla.org/En

You can download MindTouch Deki here: http://www.mindtouch.com/Download

If you have any questions about it please feel free to drop by our support chat here: http://www.mindtouch.com/support

Please try http://wibokr.com. It is extremely fast in reading or editing as it uses lots new technologies.  For scalability, Wibokr put all resource consuming services behind message queue server, such as search engine, email server, RSS service. It is amazing easy to separate these services to another physical server.

Do take a look at eTouch SamePage: http://www.etouch.net. It can scale seamlessly to support a large number of users, projects, pages etc.

You can trial SamePage by creating a trial account at http://samepage.spwiki.com or by downloading the application from http://downloads.etouch.net

Best regards,

If your total userbase is less than a few thousands of people I wouldn't worry about scalabiltiy and/or performance. Instead select a wiki with good functionality that you can setup fast. Of the ones you mentioned MediaWiki and TWiki are the best-known. As I just read in a blog about TWiki versus MediaWiki MediaWiki has some surprising limitations, so perhaps have a look at TWiki..

Cheers,

Re: Experiences with DokuWiki, FlexWiki, TWiki, MediaWiki and/or JSPWiki

A site built on the Wikidot (http://www.wikidot.com) platform is certainly scalable and would give you everything you need in terms of performance. But I agree with the earlier comment that unless you have an unreasonably large number of pages or members it is not something to be too concerned about.

You have not really said what it is about administering a wiki that you are interested in. Is there something specific you need to do which will determine which wiki platform you select?

I was thinking about the limitations DokuWiki may have and I think the
performance of DokuWiki is going to be based a lot off of the hardware
running it.
