hi guys, is this the place to put this? if not, sorry, don't read on.

i'm having problems installing mediawiki. i uploaded the files, and created a database for it (i'm hosted at godaddy's). after putting in all the info required, i get a list of things done properly, and the last line says:

Attempting to connect to database server as medmediawiki...A database query syntax error has occurred. The last attempted database query was: "(SQL query hidden)" from within function "". MySQL returned error "1193: Unknown system variable 'NAMES' (*****.*****.*****)"
with the * being my database server address, as given to me by godaddy when i created the database.
does anyone know what could be the problem?
