Migrating to TWiki

I recently had to move some moinmoin and mediawiki content all into a twiki. Since this might be useful I created a sourceforge project which provides a java library to allow you to connect to a wiki, query page list, get page and set page on a wiki, it supports mediawiki and twiki, there is an example java program to convert from mediawiki to twiki, you could alter it to go the other direction.

The link is http://jwikiapi.sourceforge.net/

Please contribute back any changes or improvments you may make.

Re: Migrating to TWiki

Thanks Jacob and Jane for working on this. Interopability is important, especially in the corporate space.

TWiki has several existing converters, usually named <other-wiki>ToTWikiAddOn, see list at Tag:import. It would be useful to the TWiki community if you publish functional converters on twiki.org as TWiki:Plugins.AddOnPackages.

Re: Migrating to TWiki

Why would you migrate from MediaWiki to Twiki?  I had a lot of trouble with Twiki.

MediaWiki is a good engine if you are looking for a whitebord use of a wiki, e.g. if you do not need much more than simple hyperlinked pages with images and some categorization of content. I find MediaWiki a very good engine for the one purpose it is built.

You might want to migrate to TWiki:
* if you need more flexibility in structuring your content,
* if you want more flexibility in extending the functionality (with over 200 plugins),
* if you want to give users the power to build their own wiki applications (to do lists, inventory systems, feature trackers etc.),
* if you want to integrate the wiki with other enterprise tools, such as bug tracking systems, SCM, CRM, portals etc,
* if you need an enterprise level wiki to consolidate the grassroots wikis popping up at the workplace,
* if you want a wiki that is easy to manage (backup, configuration, plugin installation)

Re: Migrating to TWiki

Impressed with the level of advocacy pages in your TWiki!

I'd like to see how our Tiddlywiki would operate in TWiki esp if it has the potential to some workflow to this page - we would be very excited!

Didn't see an import plugin for TW - is one in the works?

Re: Migrating to TWiki

I am not aware of a Tiddlywiki/TWiki integration and/or data conversion in work. It could be something useful though: Take personal notes in the Tiddlywiki on your laptop, and synchronize it with the corporate TWiki.
