need advice on a company wiki

Hello,

I would need your advice on choosing a wiki suitable for a company's intranet site - something like a lighter version of http://www.thoughtfarmer.com/.

The intranet pages are not many and need to be editable so this is why I thought it would be good to use a wiki.
I would need generic company section -  homepage with announcements and latest news and as well a user section (a who is who part) where a listing of users(employees) would be shown.
Each employee needs to be able to create personal page like a profile and also to be able notify automatically by email other users the profile gets updated.
Another functionality needed would be a forum - linked to each user's profile page (so when viewing the profile of a user one would see what topics that user has opened or the latest posts from that user).

I think the forum part is the trickiest one... could you please advise if there is any wiki platform out there supporting all of this?

Thank you

Well the one that I first recommend is Mediawiki.
Wikipedia uses it, and it's quite successful, and I like it.
Hope this helped.

Here's a great, in-depth case study by a wiki customer on using Confluence an intranet:

http://www.e-gineer.com/v2/blog/2007/08 … f-wiki.htm

I think it'll give you a good idea of Confluence's capabilities as an intranet. Confluence has most of what you're asking for... the ability to display news (or blogs), a user directory, personal spaces and pages for each employee. Latest posts can be set up as RSS. You could also connect Confluence with Jive Forums if you want. We have freely available APIs for building out connections with third party products or creating your own plugins. (you might also check out this page http://confluence.atlassian.com/display … as+a+Forum)

Needless to say, I recommend Atlassian Confluence. Good luck with your search.
