We are a large company, and going through our IT department cost time and money. If one wanted to be innovative on their own, outside of their IT department. what WIKI would be the one to select IF:
you were to have only 20-25 users
wanted it to remain confidential among those users
none of the users work within our company, they are represented memebers of the public

Goslinc,
Take a look at http://wik.is It is a hosted version of MindTouch Deki Wiki, which is an extremely popular Enterprise Wiki that is used by the US Army, Expedia, and Mozilla to name a few. All of the requirements that you have would be fulfilled by wik.is. If you have any questions about it please feel free to contact us directly: http://wiki.mindtouch.com/support

Hi Goslinc,
ClearWiki is a hosted wiki, is closed group to only those people you invite, can function as an extranet, and can be run entirely securely over HTTPS if you require it.
It has extensive features, easy to use, and is also very good value!

Goslinc,
Most paid hosted wikis will meet your needs. EditMe is a hosted wiki that has very flexible access controls, allowing you to specify who can see and edit which pages and sections. You can also use SSL encryption (HTTPS) with EditMe to provide a secure connection. Take a look: http://www.editme.com
Cheers,
Matt

Hello Goslinc,
Do take a look at eTouch SamePage: http://samepage.spwiki.com
The fine-grained security structure ensures that you can keep the Wiki as secure (or as open) as you want from external parties. It is being used by many corporations from Fortune 100 firms to SMB's
