Internet Relay Chat, or **IRC** in common parlance, is a type of real time internet chat. It uses topical group discussion via //channels// (private messaging of users is also allowed), and wiki providers may have their own channels for support or other purposes. IRC is a form of chat, and not a client (unlike AIM or other online chat), so you need to download an IRC client to use it. A few providers supply a free on-site way to access IRC for those without a client.
