A MindMap is often presented as a central hub with elaborations going out in all directions via spreading branches. (This free-form 2D model is claimed to aid brainstorming, mental associations and memorisation).

The underlying node structure can also typically be re-presented as a more traditional outline tree structure, which in turn would simplify its representation via, eg, a standard hierarchical XML data structure or the like.

(However in some MindMap models it may be permissible to have atypical nodes which are either not explicitly linked to any branch in the tree, or linked to several; both of these may breach the simple hierarchical tree structure, and require more complex representations. These options may not be worth implementing in a Wiki mindmap.)
